Let's work together and with a thousand spears, put these monstrous pieces of legislation in the ground. It's time to get angry!

Re: SOPA...
Its going to take more than a thousand.
It'll take....
OVER 9000.

We have roughly a million now, so thats good.
Note that only constitutionates can vote. However, if I simply...I don't know, sign up for my dad....

Re: SOPA...
I literally came on to do this same thing i've signed some of the petitions already going around also popping into stream chats and saying hey there you know about SOPA and how this can destroy this thing that you love and enjoy and want to keep loving but unfortunatley i'm irish and based in Ireland so that is all i can do. Please if you are an American please contact your local representative before the 22nd of December highlighting the issues with this bill as this actually has the potential to DESTROY once and for all E-sports and the future of any E-sports as it gives ANY COMPANY the power to shut down any website that potentially has material which show copyrighted material which means no more twitch or youtube. So please do something now is not the time apathy because we might not get a chance tomorrow

True that. I only used thousand because I thought it sounded poetic.

totally boss mode (i'll even ignore that it was my request ) i've also PMed Garret, Kyle and Mork with my emergency podcast idea. I know those guys are busy irl but it doesn't even need to be a good podcast all it need to say is this bill is bad for all of the internet including E-sports now i'm off to stream hop again to make sure i spread awareness as i go and if you believe that one person cannot make a difference i shall point you to this short story http://www.starrbrite.com/starfish.html

Re: SOPA...
Indeed. I was going to post that same video as well. We should all email Kyle and Garrett and tell them to talk about it. It's important and everyone needs to help.
I have a question, excuse my ignorance: Why can't websites move their domains to other countries, so that the US would be unable to close them?

It'd still hurt business. No longer are you in the US domain, but the US can still block its citizens from going there. Loss of revenue, loss of traffic.

They can do that but the US still retains the ability to block them so it cuts off america from the website also it stops some poor guy starting up a website for his business if he has a forum and a guy links a music video or something the music label can come in and shut down that site without any due process which is horrifying so in the best case scenario it moved all the major websites from america and (i'm talking youtube google and facebook here because this bill makes what those websites do impossible ) and this would turn america into iran or china in an internet sense but the worse case scenario is where this starts a trend where all countries effectively censor their internet, we have to kill this here or else things could be dire

hilariously the last thing these bills does is affect the pirates in any way as they will probably still be able to get around the system

Re: SOPA...
You know though, if they censored the commercial sites, that'd actually be nice. Businesses lose a ton, ton, ton tooonnnnnnnnnnnn of money because people know the internet is a scary place full of people who often swear uncontrollably because no one gave them a teddy bear when they were little.
Simply put, the government doesn't actually have enough money to enforce this beyond those sites that actually, well, want it. Actually, can someone post exactly what the bill is going to do in totally non-biased terms?

This could mean that they could control Google search results right? That's just ridiculous.

this as unbiased as i can find http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Online_Piracy_Act yes even wikipedia is unable to be completely unbiased with this. The issue here is the actual text of the bill itself is extremelly vague like really really vague
